Fort Whyte follies

The Geddert and Giesbrecht gang went to Fort Whyte this week (on family passes that expired on April 30!) We had a nice and deserved break from routine...Cindy from teaching school at home and Me from taming chaos instead of teaching at home.
It was lots of fun. (and we secretly learned lots!)
We visited the sod house and speculated what it might have been like to live there, what jobs each of us would have, from collecting water for chores, sweeping up the dirt floor after rain came through the roof, emptying the night pot...
A lot of birds were spotted, Solomon learned perspective and distance when he observed that the people at the bottom of the hill looked very tiny, we spotted a nesting owl (horned) and a nesting goose.
